Steven Gerrard was involved in many great battles between Arsenal and Liverpool during his playing days.

The Englishman is one of the greatest midfielders of all time, but playing against Arsene Wenger’s players in the same position was never easy.

Gerrard came up against the likes of Patrick Vieira, Cesc Fabregas and Mesut Ozil when he played against Arsenal over the span of a decade, and all of them caused different sorts of problems.

Now, the Liverpool legend has revealed the one current Gunners star against whom he would find it tough to play.

Steven Gerrard delivers his honest verdict on Arsenal star Declan Rice

Declan Rice has been incredible for Arsenal since he joined them from West Ham United.

The England international has rarely ever had a bad game for the Gunners. He has helped them win many games as well, including the one in the Champions League against Real Madrid last season.

Rice was already one of the best midfielders in the Premier League during his time at West Ham, and Steven Gerrard thinks he has gone up a level since his move to the Emirates.

On Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, Gerrard was asked to name a current midfielder whom he would respect.

He replied: “In the Premier League, I think Declan Rice is a really, really good midfielder.

“I like an awful lot about him. I like the kid, I like his mentality, I like the way he’s gone to the next level at Arsenal.

“He’s adding different things to his game. I think he’d be a really tough, strong opponent, good challenge.”

Declan Rice could do something at Arsenal that Steven Gerrard never did

Gerrard was absolutely unbelievable in his prime at Liverpool.

The Reds icon could do it all in the middle of the park, and he is an idol to many midfielders today. They could all learn a thing or two from him.

Rice has many of the qualities Gerrard had, and the fact that he is still only 26 means he can develop even more in the coming years.

This season, Arsenal are the favourites to win the Premier League title. If they do, Rice and all his teammates would have done something that Gerrard never did – become English champions.
