Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres and Liverpool’s Alexander Isak are Sweden’s two best players.
The Swedish national team, who are now managed by Graham Potter, haven’t performed as well as they would’ve liked in recent months, but the quality in their side is undeniable.
Isak thrived in the Premier League during his time at Newcastle United, while Gyokeres was the most prolific striker in the world when he was at Sporting CP.
Things have been a bit difficult since the start of this season for both strikers, but the Swedish Football Federation believe there is a clear winner between the two – Gyokeres.
Picture this: It’s 2028, is Viktor Gyokeres a prolific goalscorer at Arsenal?
Sweden name Viktor Gyokeres as their Forward of the Year ahead of Alexander Isak
Three Swedish attackers were nominated for the Forward of the Year award by their national football federation – Viktor Gyokeres of Arsenal, Liverpool’s Alexander Isak and Celtic winger Benjamin Nygren.
The two strikers were the clear favourites to win the award.
Isak fared brilliantly in a significantly tougher league and earned himself a record-breaking move, while Gyokeres was incredibly prolific in Portugal and won the double there.
All eyes were on who would come out on top, and the Swedish Football Federation have announced that Arsenal star Gyokeres is their Forward of the Year.

On their official website, the federation released a justification for the decision.
They wrote: “After a powerful spring at Sporting Lisbon, where Viktor Gyokeres poured in goals and established himself as one of Europe’s hottest strikers, a big summer transfer followed and an autumn with adaptation to Arsenal and a new level.
“Almost always mechanically reliable, with a volcanic primal power that makes him both difficult to stop and impossible to ignore.
“He was also the only Swede nominated for the Ballon d’Or on the men’s side in 2025.”
If you could go back in time and sign another striker for Arsenal instead of Viktor Gyokeres, who would it be and why?
Is Viktor Gyokeres a better striker than Alexander Isak?
Gyokeres and Isak are both incredible strikers, but they are very different.
The Arsenal man is a battering-ram centre-forward who uses his power to get past opponents and score goals for his side.
Isak is easier on the eye and is a better passer. The way he drifts to the left is quite similar to Gyokeres, but he is much more of a threat coming inside.
As a goalscorer, Gyokeres is definitely better than Isak, but the latter is the more complete player, which is why he cost Liverpool a fortune in the summer.
It remains to be seen who will end this season with more goals. Gyokeres currently has six to his name, while Isak is stuck on two.
