Mikel Arteta, Edu and co received a ton praise from Arsenal fans for their work in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal signed two exceptional players in Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey. We brought in an experienced head in Willian and replaced Emi Martinez with Alex Runarsson as well. Arteta also convinced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to extend his contract and that was just as important as the summer signings.
However, things haven’t quite gone to plan since. Willian hasn’t quite hit the ground running, while Aubameyang is going through the roughest patch of his career.
We lost Thomas Partey to injury before the international break and he has been a huge miss. Our decision to not bring in a creative midfielder has limited us to just 10 goals in as many Premier League games this season, and that is costing us dearly.
The January transfer window becomes extremely important now. Arteta and Edu will have to find a way to bring in a new number 10. The Arsenal boss admitted that we will have to do something in the market next month to solve our issues.
Arteta: We need to do something in January
He told Goal: “We are planning, talking with [technical director] Edu and with the club about the things we can do in January. At the moment it’s pretty difficult, unpredictable as well in terms of places as we are very restricted at the moment.”
“We’ll see what happens. I think things will move in the market, we will be prepared. We will need to do something knowing the limitations of that market in January and the limitations we have as well to sign players.”
Arsenal will need to plan well to free up funds. The Gunners spent a lot of money in the summer, and the fact that we failed to sell a few players puts us in a very difficult financial position.
However, we desperately need some creativity in the squad and failing to bring in a number 10 next month could prove to be a massive mistake as we head into the second half of the season.
