Arsenal fans were blown away by how well Gabriel Martinelli played against Sevilla.
Arsenal cruised to a 2-0 victory over Spanish side Sevilla in a Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening. Whilst Gabriel Martinelli didn’t get on the scoresheet himself, he caught the eye of many supporters.
Martinelli was a relentless thorn in the side of the Sevilla defence. The visitors’ right-back, Juanlu Sanchez, simply could not cope with the Brazilian’s pace and trickery.
As per WhoScored statistics, Martinelli completed an astonishing nine dribbles against the La Liga outfit. He also played two key passes, and was always willing to track back and support the Gunners’ rearguard on the rare occasions that Sevilla mustered a foray forward.
Mikel Arteta will have been delighted with Martinelli’s display, and opted for caution by bringing the 22-year-old off in the 81st minute. With the left winger in this kind of form, it is vital that he is kept as fresh and rested as possible.

Many Arsenal fans on Twitter heaped praise on Martinelli for his display on Wednesday. One said the attacker was “unplayable tonight.”
Another fan stated that “Martinelli might be back to his best tears in my eyes.”
Another supporter pointed out that “the guy marking Martinelli Will see him in his dream tonight running at him. Martinelli has tortured him tonight.”
Martinelli has been lauded for his pace before, but Sevilla simply couldn’t live with it at the Emirates Stadium. The only thing that could be levelled against the seven-cap Brazil international after this display was that his final ball wasn’t always there.
He did get a well-earned assist for Bukayo Saka’s goal, but on other occasions he failed to pick out a teammate with a cross having gotten himself into a good position to deliver. He might also regret not having carved out any clear shooting opportunities for himself.
Overall, Martinelli can be very pleased with his evening’s efforts. More of the same is needed against Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.
