'Tell the truth': Mesut Ozil's agent lashes out at Arteta and Arsenal

The Mesut Ozil saga at Arsenal doesn’t look like it will stop any time soon. The German was left out of the Premier League and the Europa League squad by Mikel Arteta, and he has been very vocal about his omission on social media.

Fans, pundits and the media have all had their say over the situation. Some claim that Arteta is right to leave him out, while others feel that the former Real Madrid man has been treated unfairly by Arsenal and Arteta.

The Gunners boss made it clear that the decision was based only on football reasons. He even admitted that he had failed to get the better out of Ozil over the last six months.

That seems to have struck a nerve in the German’s camp. His agent, Dr. Erkut Sogut, has lashed out at Arsenal and Arteta over his treatment of the World Cup winner.

Ozil’s agent has hit out at Arsenal and Arteta

He told ESPN: “Arsenal fans deserve an honest explanation, not [Arteta] saying ‘I failed Ozil.’ You didn’t fail Ozil: you failed to be fair, honest and transparent and treat someone with respect who has a contract and was loyal all the time. Every single person outside knows he hasn’t treated him fairly.”

“He didn’t give him a chance to show himself this season. If he is still under contract, the player should have the option to stay and fight for his place. Mesut hasn’t been given that. Why would you put a player on the bench twice for 90 minutes [after lockdown] if he wasn’t fit or committed?”

“Everyone says he’s training well. Per Mertesacker said this publicly. I spoke with at least five teammates who say he is training great. They say Mesut is one of their best players, and they cannot understand why he is left out.”

“So it can’t be the training – if it is not the pitch, what are the footballing reasons? If you talk, you should tell the truth that the Arsenal fans deserve otherwise don’t talk at all.”

Sogut’s comments will not go down well at Arsenal. Ozil already seemed to be at the point of no return under Arteta, and these comments will all but guarantee an end to his career at the Emirates.

The whole situation has been handled poorly by Arsenal. Things like this would have never happened under Arsene Wenger.

The war between the club and our highest-paid player will have no winners. The comments that have come out and the ones that surely will emerge in the next few months will be damaging to the club.

Arsenal and Arteta now have to get in a room with Ozil and his agent to sort this out. Both parties should reach an agreement over the termination of his contract, which looks like the only solution to this mess at the moment.
