Arsenal have plenty of history in the Champions League but are still hoping to bring the trophy back to the Emirates Stadium as winners one day.
The Gunners have gone close in the past, reaching the final in 2006 only to fall to defeat at the hands of Barcelona.
Now, all those years on, Mikel Arteta is tasked with going that step further as the Arsenal manager, with qualification back into the competition a formality once again.
One thing that supporters of the club may notice is that, during Champions League games, the Emirates Stadium cannot be addressed as such.
So with that said, here’s a look at why Arsenal are forced into a name change for the stadium in European competition.
Why the Emirates Stadium is called the Arsenal Stadium during the Champions League
During the Champions League, the Emirates Stadium will be referred to as the “Arsenal Stadium” instead, which may confuse some.
This is due to strict UEFA regulations surrounding stadium sponsors, which enforce a change of name if the sponsors usually feature.
For Arsenal, that changes from the Emirates Stadium to the Arsenal Stadium, while Manchester City change theirs from the Etihad Stadium to the City of Manchester Stadium.
UEFA do allow for the stadiums to be named after the sponsorship on Champions League-affiliated prints – such as match tickets – to differentiate the arena from others, but there are rules over the use of commercial typeface and colour.
That will be the case for all of Arsenal’s games in the 2024/25 Champions League, which will feature four home games during the new league format.
Should the Gunners reach the latter stages, they will have two-legged ties that will include matches being played at their home ground, which can still have the Emirates Stadium text on it.
Which games do Arsenal have at the Emirates Stadium in the 2024/25 Champions League?
Arsenal have four home games lined up before they can qualify for the latter stages of the Champions League in the 2024/25 season.
They start off against PSG in early October before hosting Shakhtar Donetsk later in the month in hopes of picking up some important points.
December will see Arsenal take on AS Monaco before their final league stage home game against Dinamo Zagreb.
