Arsenal have been linked with Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes for a number of weeks now but there is reason to believe that it might be time to move on already.
Newcastle have already raised huge funds by selling both Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, thus lowering the need for them to sell Guimaraes.
Reports have suggested that the Brazilian could be available for just £50m. That, of course, is a steal in today’s market given what the top players go for.
However, while Arsenal fans are right to be excited by the potential Guimaraes signing, reports emerging today have thrown a fresh spanner in the works.
And really, it could be time to walk away before this even gets going.
Name a WORSE signing in the MIkel Arteta era than Christian Norgaard. We’ll wait…
Newcastle’s stance means Arsenal should consider moving on from Bruno Guimaraes
There is absolutely no doubting that Bruno Guimaraes adds quality to Arsenal’s squad. His ability and mentality are proven at this level and he’d be a fine signing.
However, The Telegraph is reporting today that there is in fact no release clause in the contract of Guimaraes at Newcastle.
Furthermore, it’s suggested that the Magpies are firm in their stance that any deal will cost around the £100m mark. That fee, of course, is around what they got for Tonali.
In addition to the news of a huge asking price, talk of Newcastle having an unwritten agreement with Guimaraes to allow him to leave is also said to be wide of the mark.

Instead, Amanda Staveley is denying those chats ever took place. Instead, the Newcastle owners are holding on to the idea of landing a huge fee.
For Arsenal, this deal looks like being a complete mess to get done already.
Ultimately, there is little time to waste in the summer window. And as this one drags on further, you get the sense Arsenal will be best served looking elsewhere.
