The Importance of the Derby

What a time to be alive, as the English Premier League draws to a close with some exciting games still to be played and fate of teams still to be decided, it’d be interesting to see the league table once the curtains falls as teams would access how they’ve fared in the campaign.
Chelsea look on course to win the league, as long as they don’t do the unthinkable which they seem unlikely to – given the form they’re in. Tottenham Hotspur sit four points behind leaders Chelsea as they try to make a claim on the title in over 50 years, but with an array of fixtures against Arsenal, West Ham, Manchester United, Leicester City and Hull City, it’s unlikely Spurs would upset the leaders.
Arsenal, who’d face Tottenham in what would seem to be an epic battle, still have to play Manchester United, Southampton, Stoke City, Sunderland and Everton, as they hope not to miss out on top four for the first time in 22 years. The North London Derby would be the last at White Hart Lane.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has never seen Spurs finish above his team since his reign began in 1996, is well on course to see this record get broken this season; lest if Spurs do what only Spurs know how to do best. Wenger who has had a long history in the North London Derby would like to nick a win against rival Mauricio Pochettino, given it’s the last derby match at the Lane.
Mauricio Pochettino on the other hand would like to salvage all 3 points in this match, as the force to put Chelsea aside and claim the league title against their fellow London rivals. I guess he’d be long remembered in Tottenham history’s book, as the manager (maybe only) to ever finish above Arsene Wenger. Spurs fans would have something to cheer about, but in Wenger’s words; you cannot say the weight of one year has the weight of 20.
The Arsenal team would fully be aware of the dangers of losing maximum points to their neighbours, as it could well spell an end of any hope on making it to the top four this season. Failure to qualify for next season’s champions league could see the Arsenal players get some percentage of their wages slashed, and that could further lead to keeping hold of our prized assets in Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
The match is a tight on one to call with everything to play for, as both teams would battle it out through sweat and blood, but I’ll go with a 2-1 victory to the Arsenal. However, in this case, this doesn’t put Tottenham on par with the Gunners as they’re only two teams in North London – Arsenal Football Club and Arsenal Ladies Football Club. COYG!
