Arsenal star William Saliba is one of the best defenders in the world, but he had an evening to forget when Germany beat France last night.

The 22-year-old started in defence for Les Bleus alongside Jean-Clair Todibo at Signal Iduna Park. Didier Deschamps’ side went into the game as the favourites, but Germany managed to pick up a 2-1 win.

Saliba has since been criticised.

Journalist criticises Arsenal star William Saliba after his performance for France

Every Arsenal fan loves William Saliba and rightly so.

Why Pele Is Overrated.

The Frenchman has been absolutely amazing for us since the start of last season, and we’d have nobody else in world football in his place at the Emirates.

Saliba walks into almost every team in the world, but for one reason or another, Deschamps doesn’t see him as a starter for France.

However, when France faced Germany last night, Saliba got the nod, but the 22-year-old Arsenal defender didn’t have the best of games.

Eurosport journalist Martin Mosnier was far from happy with Saliba. He said about the defender: “Tonight, Saliba was not good. He justifies a bit the lack of trust from Didier Deschamps. There are others too (…) but if I had to pick the main loser, it would be William Saliba.”

GFFN gave him a 3/10 rating and wrote: “The Arsenal man struggled, especially in the early stages, looking sloppy in and out of possession in his slightly unnatural position at left-centre-back.

“He should have been tighter to Müller for Germany’s opener, although in truth, Germany’s early dominance was the result of France’s collective defensive shortcomings.”

The Insider’s View:

If Saliba had to have a bad game this month, we’d much rather it happened in a France shirt than in an Arsenal one.

The Frenchman will be the first one to admit he was not great last night, but we’re not even a little bit concerned about him.

Every time he has made a slight mistake, he has bounced back magnificently, and we expect him to do just that once he returns to Arsenal.

The Gunners take on Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, and we expect Saliba to have a great game.
