Riccardo Calafiori was given assurances about one thing before he signed for Arsenal.

The Italy international was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium for over a month. Talks with Bologna were not easy, but the Gunners finally got the deal done.

After announcing his arrival on Monday, Mikel Arteta hinted that Calafiori could make his Arsenal debut in the game against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Arsenal boss is delighted to have the versatile defender at his disposal now, and we think Calafiori is thrilled to be playing under Arteta as well.

Arsenal board made a promise about Mikel Arteta to Riccardo Calafiori

Arteta is the most important man at Arsenal.

The Spaniard has completely revolutionised the club since he took charge in December 2019. He came in when everything was toxic, but thanks to him, the Gunners are one of the best clubs in the world now.

Arteta also deserves a lot of credit for his transfers. He is still yet to get a big signing wrong at the Emirates, and we are convinced that Calafiori is going to be a success as well.

However, to convince the Italy international, Arsenal’s board had to assure him of one thing.

GiveMeSport have revealed that Arsenal promised both Calafiori and David Raya that Arteta will remain the club’s manager for the foreseeable future.

The 42-year-old has entered the final year of his contract, but he is expected to pen a new deal and remain as the club’s manager beyond 2025.

That is amazing news for every Arsenal fan as Arteta is the main man in this Gunners project, and we are convinced big titles will arrive with him at the helm.

The latest on Arteta’s contract situation

It’s never ideal to let anyone important get into the final year of their contract.

However, for one reason or another, Arteta has been allowed to get himself into this position, and that is slightly concerning as most big clubs in the world would take him in a heartbeat.

However, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

GMS reveal that ‘Arteta is on course to pen a new contract at the Emirates Stadium as the basic terms have been agreed in principle’.

The report claims that the Gunners’ hierarchy believes Arteta deserves a more lucrative contract, and the Arsenal manager is said to be happy with how he is being backed by the club as well.

After talks with Arteta’s camp, there are ‘increasing levels of optimism’ within the club that the Spaniard will sign a brand new contract in the coming weeks.
