Theo Walcott spent over a decade at Arsenal.
The Englishman joined the Gunners as a teenager from Southampton. He played 397 games for the club, scored over 100 goals and made a fantastic name for himself at the Emirates.
Now retired, Walcott has had a lot of time to look back and reflect on his career at Arsenal and elsewhere.
While building his ultimate team, the 35-year-old made a claim about one former teammate who he shared a great relationship with at Arsenal.
Arsenal hero Theo Walcott explains why Cesc Fabregas was ‘the best passer’
Cesc Fabregas was incredible during his time at Arsenal.
The Spaniard, like Walcott, joined the Gunners when he was a teenager. He was quickly integrated into the first team and became a huge hit.
Fabregas went on to captain Arsenal and was arguably the club’s best player in his final few years there. He was a brilliant midfielder and always created chances for attackers in front of him.
In a video on BBC Sport, Walcott was asked to build his perfect team based on questions like the best dribbler, finisher and passer he played with or against back in the day.
Walcott made a bold claim that Robin van Persie was a better finisher than Thierry Henry. We found that really surprising.
Then, when he was asked to name the best passer, the former Arsenal number 14 snubbed stars like Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla to pick Fabregas.
“The best passer of the ball, (there are) so many again, I’m going to have to go for Cesc Fabregas,” he said.
“He made every single ball look so easy. And, what he was so good at was knowing what to do before he even got the ball.”
How is Cesc Fabregas faring as a manager?
Fabregas was named as the manager of Como in Italy at the start of the 2023/24 season.
The Spaniard was one of the most intelligent footballers of his generation, and his experience as a player will surely come in handy in his managerial career.
Fabregas’ side are currently 14th in the Serie A table, winning two and drawing two of their first seven games. They have been unlucky in a few of their fixtures.
Como’s aim this season is to stay in the Serie A having achieved promotion from the second division just last season. It won’t be easy, but they are on the right path.
It will be interesting to see if Fabregas will be able to guide his side to safety in the coming months.
