Arsenal defender Cedric Soares may still be set to leave the club despite the English transfer window having closed.

According to journalist James Olley, Greek outfit Olympiacos are interested in signing Cedric Soares, and there is “still time” for them to seal a deal for the Arsenal right-back as the Greek transfer window remains open until September 11th.

Premier League side Everton also held an interest in the 34-cap Portugal international.

Why Pele Is Overrated.

Cedric has no future at Arsenal. If he remains at the Emirates Stadium, he is unlikely to feature for the Gunners except from in the instance of a defensive injury crisis. He only managed four appearances for the Gunners last season, before joining Fulham on loan in January.

He endured a difficult stint at Craven Cottage, only making eight appearances in the second half of the campaign.

At 32-years-old, Cedric needs to be playing regularly, especially if he wants to fight his way back into the Portuguese international reckoning. He won’t get the game time he needs at Arsenal, so a move to Olympiacos looks like an ideal solution.

Arsenal need to finish summer sales job

Mikel Arteta has evolved his Arsenal squad beyond the level where Cedric can be expected to reliably contribute. The £75,000-a-week full-back is way down the pecking order, behind the likes of Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Thomas Partey.

With academy ace Reuell Walters impressing in training, Cedric is clearly surplus to requirements.

Arsenal needed to shift plenty of deadwood from their squad this summer. Sporting director Edu was able to move on Pablo Mari, Matt Turner, Rob Holding, and Kieran Tierney. However, Cedric and Nicolas Pepe remain on the books at the north London club.

The Gunners must make moving on that unwanted pair a priority during this brief period when certain international transfer markets remain open.
