England manager Thomas Tuchel has delivered his verdict on Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.
The 23-year-old is one of the best players in the Premier League. He has consistently delivered for club and country over the years, and is a starter for both.
The winger is yet to play under Tuchel – Saka missed the last international break due to the hamstring injury he suffered while he was at Arsenal.
Another issue forced him to miss the game against Andorra a few days ago, but Tuchel has now confirmed that Saka is back.
Thomas Tuchel explains why he was ‘worried’ about Arsenal star Bukayo Saka
Bukayo Saka was called up to the England squad for their games during this international break, but he played no part in the first fixture.
Saka was left out of the side against Andorra due to an injury, but the Englishman is back now and is fit to play against Cameroon on Tuesday night.
In his press conference ahead of the game, Thomas Tuchel was asked how excited he is to have Saka available for the first time as the manager of England.
The German admitted that he was thrilled, but then claimed that he was ‘worried’ about the Arsenal star’s injury that kept him out of the last game.
He said, as relayed on HaytersTV: “I’m very excited, because I could see that he worked hard to come back from his injury. He had then this minor discomfort in his last match, which worried me a bit.
“He just had one training session with us, a full session and one half on Thursday and Friday before the match. We decided in the end to protect myself a little bit, to not let him play, not be in the squad, to not take any risk.
“But he is happy, he trained with a smile. He had yesterday an amazing training session, with a lot of quality. He will start tomorrow (Tuesday), and of course, he is a key player for us.”
Bukayo Saka will become a star under Thomas Tuchel
Saka has hit great heights at Arsenal, and he has produced several incredible moments in an England shirt too over the years.
However, it has to be said that under Gareth Southgate, he didn’t have much freedom.
England played a dreadful style of football under their old boss, and Saka had to defend a lot more than he attacked at times back then.
Under Tuchel, however, we expect Saka to get the freedom and support that he needs to thrive, and that will make him a superstar for the Three Lions.
