Viktor Gyokeres has hit a nice patch of form for Arsenal in 2026 but Tim Sherwood insists he still feels a bit for the Swedish star.
Gyokeres has been Arsenal’s main man so far since the turn of the year and no Premier League player has actually scored more than him this year.
However, Gyokeres is still wide open to criticism at times and according to Tim Sherwood, some of that is unjust.

Viktor Gyokeres told why he deserves credit at Arsenal
Unlike a lot of Arsenal’s current squad, Viktor Gyokeres can come across as been a bit harsher on the eye.
However, according to Sherwood, that is actually one of his strengths and he deserves time to develop further.
“I feel sorry for him sometimes. I think he wants the ball in certain moments he wants it a little bit quicker,” Sherwood explained for Premier League Productions.

“He’s not getting it quicker at the moment. So there was a couple of times at the weekend when I watched him closely and he was, you know, fighting dragging all over the place. He was happy to do that.
“You know, not all strikers are happy to have that wrestle all of the time, but he’s capable of doing it. I think he can still develop. You know, I think he’s still a young man and Mikel can teach him.”
Viktor Gyokeres’ form in the last 10 games proves he’s Arsenal’s main man
A few months ago, we were talking about Gyokeres in a way that many assumed would be us saying goodbye to the striker. His performances lacked what Arsenal needed and ultimately, the goals weren’t coming.
However, since the turn of the year Gyokeres has been outstanding and in the last ten games alone he has scored nine goals.
Keep, sell or loan – what should Arsenal do with Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer?
Among those nine are the brace against Spurs and his fine finish away at Inter Milan. Interestingly as well, Gyokeres has the highest goal scoring conversion rate in the league over this stretch at 24%.
If Gyokeres continues in this rich vein of form, then Arsenal will become champions.
And what looked like being a wretched signing at one point suddenly looks a masterstroke from Arteta and the board.
