Tim Sherwood says he has just noticed something that Arsenal do, the Invincibles did it all the time

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has claimed that there are many similarities between the current Arsenal team and the Invincibles.

The Gunners are aiming to win the Premier League title this season after finishing second in each of the last three campaigns.

The last time they lifted the title was all the way back in 2004, when Arsene Wenger’s historic side went the entire season unbeaten.

No club will match that record this term, but Sherwood still can’t help but remember the Invincibles every time he watches this Arsenal team play.

Tim Sherwood names the ‘key’ similarity that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal share with the Invincibles

The Arsenal Invincibles were one of the greatest teams of all time.

Wenger had assembled a squad full of superstars, and they had the ability to blow any team away on their day.

One of that squad’s biggest strengths was their physicality.

The Invincibles could overpower their opponents on a consistent basis, and Tim Sherwood believes this Arsenal team can do the same thing.

He said on Sky Sports: “There are a lot of similarities between your Invincibles side and your Arsenal side now. Physicality is the key one.

“I played against that side – Patrick Vieira, Emmanuel Petit, you know, and the strong guys at the back. If you can’t win the game, you won’t lose it. You drew a lot of games in that season.

“I think now, they take what’s on offer. If it’s there to steamroll a team, they will do it. If it’s there just to nick a point, take that. It’s a valuable point at the end of the season. I think it only bodes well for Arsenal.”

Arsenal 2025/26 vs the Invincibles compared after eight Premier League games

Arsenal cannot go the entire season unbeaten like the Invincibles did in 2004/05 because they have already lost a game in the Premier League this season.

However, they are best placed to win the title this term.

Here’s how the current Arsenal first-team’s numbers compare to those of the Invincibles at the same stage.

The Invincibles were just a point ahead of the current Arsenal side in the Premier League after the first eight games of the season.

Wenger’s men scored one goal more, but Mikel Arteta’s side have conceded half as many goals as the icons of yesteryear did.

Sherwood is right, this really does bode well for Arsenal, and it could finally be their year.
