Tim Sherwood says ‘unbelievable’ player simply should not join Arsenal, ‘it makes no sense’

Arsenal have been linked with moves to sign several players in recent weeks.

The Gunners aren’t expected to be involved in any transfers in January, but they will definitely be active again in the summer.

Andrea Berta’s focus should be on reinforcements in attack and midfield, but like every window, Arsenal have been linked with a few defenders too.

One of them is Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace.

Tim Sherwood says Marc Guehi to Arsenal ‘makes no sense’

Guehi is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League.

The former Chelsea man has been ‘unbelievable‘ for Crystal Palace and England in recent years, and he will certainly join a bigger club in 2026.

Reports have claimed that Arsenal are interested in signing Guehi on a free transfer in the summer, but they face competition from Liverpool and Manchester City for his signature.

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has had his say after hearing the reports, and he feels that it would make no sense for Guehi to join the Gunners.

He said on Sky Sports: “From Marc Guehi’s view, why would he go to Arsenal?

“He’s not going to play if Saliba and Gabriel are fit, he would never get in the team. I think he’s a decent player, but I don’t think he’s the quality of those two centre-backs. He won’t want to go as a backup.

“I think there’s more of a route into the first team of Man City, and certainly Liverpool, which is the obvious choice.

“So, it doesn’t make any sense from Arsenal Football Club, and certainly for Marc Guehi’s point of view, it makes no sense whatsoever.”

What is the maximum fee you would pay for Marc Guehi in January considering Arsenal can sign him for free in the summer?

What could be the reason behind Arsenal’s interest in Marc Guehi?

When you look at Arsenal’s defence right now, the interest in Guehi seems strange.

Sherwood is right, the Crystal Palace star is not going to start ahead of Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba, which means he will only be coming in as a backup.

We don’t know what Mikel Arteta’s plan is, but if we were to guess, we think Guehi is being viewed as a backup and an eventual successor to Gabriel.

That would mean that Piero Hincapie would move to left-back once he is signed permanently, and Myles Lewis-Skelly will be used as a midfielder, which is his natural position.

That would make Arsenal’s defence stronger than it is now, but only time will tell if Guehi will agree to join the Gunners as a backup.
