Sometimes in a footballer’s career, not every move made works out for the best and we’ve seen it countless times over the years at Arsenal too.

Both in terms of incomings and outgoings, players associated with the Gunners have suffered miserable times away from or at The Emirates.

With Arsenal linked with so many players over the last few transfer windows, there are always going to be those players who turn down the club and fail elsewhere.

In hindsight, it must be hard for them to look back on and when it comes to Tottenham’s on-loan midfielder Joao Palhinha, that’s exactly what happened.

Why Joao Palhinha was unhappy after rejecting Arsenal

If we go back to the summer of 2024, then Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha was very much one of the most in-demand midfielders in the game.

Arsenal were super keen on Palhinha at the time but instead, he opted for a move to Bayern Munich.

However, injuries and a struggle to get into the first XI hindered Palhinha’s time in Munich and now on loan with Spurs, the midfielder has admitted that was the toughest time in his career so far.

“Probably the time that I had at Bayern, I would say,” Palhinha admitted.

“I expected to play more when I went there but after the injury it was not easy for me to get the right chances.”

At the time of his move to Bayern, Palhinha was very much one of the best midfielders in England and warranted a big move away,

However, we’ve seen with how he handled things in Germany and now how he’s performed at Tottenham that ultimately, he might not have been the man for Arsenal.

Yes, he has all the capabilities a top class midfield destroyer needs and had he moved to The Emirates, Mikel Arteta might have got more from him.

Nevertheless, this has ended up looking like one Arsenal got away with and in a way, it’s quite sweet to see a current Spurs man admitting things went downhill after rejecting the Gunners.
