Arsenal picked up a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Leicester City this afternoon, and here are our player ratings.
The Gunners handed the captain’s armband to Oleksandr Zinchenko today as a mark of respect a year after the conflict began in Ukraine. That was a classy touch!
Gabriel Martinelli‘s goal just after the break sealed the game for us, and we are now five points clear of Manchester City, who take on Bournemouth this evening.
Arsenal player ratings vs Leicester City
Aaron Ramsdale: 8/10
The Arsenal goalkeeper had nothing to do all game. Leicester didn’t have a shot on target and it was one of the easiest games Ramsdale will play in the remainder of this season.
Ben White: 7.5/10
White isn’t in the high-flying form that he was in at the start of the season, but he’s still solid. His foul on the Leicester keeper cost Leandro Trossard a stunner, but apart from that, he had a really good game.
William Saliba: 8.5/10
Another solid display by Saliba in the heart of the defence. He didn’t have much to do in the first half and dealt with everything that he came up against after the break fairly comfortably.
Gabriel Magalhaes: 9/10
Gabriel has been almost flawless since after the World Cup. His defending has been truly sensational and it was his brilliant pass to Trossard that led to Martinelli’s goal. Excellent display!
Oleksandr Zinchenko: 9/10
Our captain for the day, Zinchenko, was excellent. He was everywhere on the pitch despite starting as a left-back, and almost scored for the second week running.
Jorginho: 9/10
Another excellent display from our January signing. Jorginho was outstanding on the ball throughout the afternoon and he used his experience to slow down the tempo late in the second half to help us see out the game. He’s proving to be a brilliant signing.
Granit Xhaka: 7/10
Xhaka seems to have lost his goalscoring instinct in the box and didn’t have the greatest of games in the first half. However, he was much better after the break and helped us see out the game.
Martin Odegaard: 7/10
The Norwegian wasn’t at his best today, but he never shied away from the ball. He worked incredibly hard as always, but he will know that he could’ve fared much better. Nothing to worry about though!
Bukayo Saka: 8/10
Saka was one of our best players in the first half and was extremely unlucky to not win a penalty. He was brought down in the box and the VAR completely ignored the foul. Shocking refereeing, but he should be pleased with his display.
Gabriel Martinelli: 8/10
The Brazilian struggled in the first half, but his goal decided the game right after the break. It was a sensational finish by Martinelli – Thierry Henry would be proud.
Leandro Trossard: 9/10
Trossard was given a start through the middle today in place of Eddie Nketiah and the Belgian played incredibly well. He scored a stunner too and it’s a shame that the goal was ruled out.
A very good display up top though, and he has given Arteta something to think about ahead of our game against Everton midweek.
