Arsenal’s problems in attack have become a hot topic of conversation.
Mikel Arteta has found himself in a situation where he has just three fit attackers at his disposal. Everyone other than Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri and Raheem Sterling are out injured.
Those three players will likely start every game from now until the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka return from their injuries, but it’s still unclear who will play where.
Troy Deeney has now made a very interesting claim about one of them.
Troy Deeney compares Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri to Roberto Firmino
Nwaneri is one of the best players of his age in the world right now.
The 17-year-old has been unbelievable for the Gunners this season, and he has now become a regular in Saka’s right-wing position.
However, Arteta has tipped Nwaneri to play as a striker at Arsenal one day, and with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus both out for the season, the youngster could get an opportunity.
Deeney, who knows a thing or two about playing up front, was asked about this, and he feels Nwaneri would be of the same mould as Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino if Arteta uses him up front.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Watford captain said: “I would put Ethan Nwaneri, not the same type of player, but the mould and expectation, he would probably be the Bobby Firmino type.
“Works hard, links up play, really good, gets 15-20 goals, but from linking up play in a high-performing team.”
Where should Nwaneri play for Arsenal in the coming games?
Arteta has a tricky situation to deal with in the coming weeks.
Nwaneri, Sterling and Trossard are the only three senior options, and they will have to start almost every single game.
The idea of Nwaneri starting up top at Arsenal is really exciting, but we think he is far more effective out wide on the right because of his dribbling, acceleration and ability to create chances.
Trossard, who is Arsenal’s best finisher, should play through the middle, while Sterling can start on the left and use his pace to have an impact.
However, we won’t be surprised at all if all three players are asked to constantly interchange their positions throughout the game.
