Former Arsenal star Lucas Torreira was one of the stars of the show as Galatasaray beat Liverpool in the Champions League.
Arne Slot’s men have lost consecutive games in all competitions now. Their luck from the first few games of the campaign seems to have run out, and teams are finding ways to beat them.
Victor Osimhen’s penalty in the first half proved to be enough for Galatasaray to pick up a memorable win against the reigning Premier League champions.
Several players from the Turkish side impressed, but our eyes were on Torreira, and he blew us away.
Turkish media deliver verdict on Lucas Torreira’s performance vs Liverpool
Lucas Torreira joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in the summer of 2018.
The Uruguay international became an instant fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium and had a tremendous debut season under Unai Emery.
However, the Spanish coach started using Torreira higher up the pitch, and that completely ruined his confidence in the famous red and white.
Arsenal sold Torreira to Galatasaray for just £5.5 million in 2022, and he has since been a very important player for them.
On Tuesday, the midfielder started against Liverpool, and he was outstanding.
Fanatik hailed Torreira by saying: “Torreira dominated the Liverpool midfield, winning possession and initiating attacks with his accurate passing choices.”
The Turkish outlet further added: “The midfield, comprised of Okan Buruk, Lemina, Torreira, and İlkay, challenged the Liverpool midfield and placed loose balls at Yunus’s elegant feet.”
Tele 1 wrote: “Lemina, Torreira, Singo, and Davinson put up a terrific fight. Jakobs was another surprising standout of the night in my opinion.”
Lucas Torreira ‘suffered a lot’ at Arsenal
Arsenal fans absolutely loved Torreira.
The former Sampdoria man was excellent in his first season in the red and white. He dominated the midfield despite his size and scored a couple of memorable goals too.
However, following Mikel Arteta’s arrival, it became clear that there was no place for Torreira, who was replaced in the Gunners squad.
In the summer of 2022, just before he left the club, Torreira revealed that he ‘suffered a lot’ at Arsenal and ruled out staying at the Emirates.
He said, as per The Metro: “There is no chance (that I will stay).
“From the beginning, they told me that I didn’t have a place, so I don’t want to stay either because I suffered a lot, it cost me a lot to adapt, and my idea is to go to Italy or Spain.”
