Some Arsenal fans won’t believe the success that Unai Emery has found back in the Premier League.
The Spaniard left the Emirates five years ago after being dismissed for overseeing Arsenal’s longest winless run since 1992.
Since then, Emery has won the Europa League with Villarreal and coached Aston Villa to the Champions League, impressing many after his nightmare in N5.
While a lot went wrong on the pitch during the 53-year-old’s tenure at the Emirates, it’s also become clear that some errors were made away from the action too.

Unai Emery sold Alex Iwobi to Everton
In 2019, just months before Emery’s Arsenal departure, it was announced that the Gunners had sold Alex Iwobi to Everton.
The Hale End graduate departed to hand his boyhood club a profit of £35m, a fee that was thought highly off at the time.
Fast-forward to now and the decision to axe Iwobi is more contested, as the Nigerian has really found his feet in the Premier League.
Now playing for Fulham alongside Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson, the 28-year-old is thriving, sending a message to those at the Emirates following his premature departure.
Iwobi is topping the charts in Europe
Emery called the shots to allow Iwobi to leave, something that Mikel Arteta might have wished never happened as the academy product is hitting his prime.
Marco Silva is reaping the benefits of placing trust in the versatile attacker, who is currently ranking as Europe’s best in one impressive statistic.
No player in Europe’s top five leagues has completed more through balls in 2024/25 than Iwobi, who is leading the way among some of the best playmakers in the world.
The signs were there that Iwobi would be a significant talent for the Gunners however, the frailties in his game sadly shone brightest being at a club as demanding as Arsenal.
Since flying the nest, the Nigeria international has not looked back, which comes as good news for those around him at Fulham, who are relishing playing with the in-form Hale End graduate.
