Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins would be interested in signing for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The Englishman joined the Villans from Brentford for £28 million in the summer of 2020 (BBC). He has been a very good player for Aston Villa, scoring and assisting a combined 47 goals in 102 appearances in all competitions.

It won’t be a surprise at all if Watkins moves on to a bigger club soon, but would Arsenal want to sign him?

Why Pele Is Overrated.

Ollie Watkins would like to join Arsenal this summer

Watkins has scored in each of his last five games for Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Englishman, 27, has been in excellent form since former Arsenal boss Unai Emery took charge of the club, and he could fire Villa to a top-half finish – potentially even into the top eight.

If Watkins continues his excellent goalscoring form until the end of this season, there’s every chance he’ll be on the radar of top clubs in the country.

O’Rourke says he’d love to sign for Arsenal.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Yeah, it’s definitely something that a player is going to be interested in, especially if Arsenal are in the Champions League next season, which seems pretty certain that they will be.

“The chance to play at a higher level, the chance to go to a side competing for trophies and titles, is what all players want to do right now. I’m sure Watkins would be excited at the project that’s going on at Arsenal.”

TBR View:

Watkins is a good player, but Arsenal don’t need him.

We have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah up top, while Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli can also play there. Folarin Balogun will also be back in the summer after his phenomenal loan spell in Ligue 1, and he could well be an option too.

Watkins would apparently love to join Arsenal and that’s no surprise at all – the Englishman has admitted in the past that he’s a boyhood Arsenal fan.

However, sadly for him, we just can’t see this move happening.
