Arsenal have received more bad news on the injury front.

The Gunners have had so many issues this season. We’re in February now and Mikel Arteta hasn’t had a fully fit squad available at his disposal for a single game.

That has been one of the biggest reasons why Arsenal are trailing Liverpool in the Premier League title race, and there’s now more bad news.

Gabriel Martinelli is ruled out for a month due to the injury he suffered in the game against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.

Arteta needs to find a player to replace him in the squad now, and an academy graduate could become a surprise option.

Charles Sagoe Jr could get opportunities at Arsenal after Gabriel Martinelli’s injury

Arsenal’s decision to not sign a new forward looks more and more silly now.

Arteta only has four fit attackers at the moment – Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling and Ethan Nwaneri. Everyone else is injured.

Martinelli is the latest to join the list, and he is not expected to be back until March. He could miss a couple of games next month too.

With the transfer window closed now, Arteta will have to look at the academy for some help, and he has called up one young attacker for the Dubai trip – Charles Sagoe Jr.

The 20-year-old has already made his senior debut for Arsenal. He started on the right wing against Brentford in a 1-0 win in the third round of the Carabao Cup last season.

Sagoe Jr has often been spotted training with the Arsenal first team, and he has been named on the bench too on a few occasions.

The youngster could now get an opportunity or two in the coming weeks until Martinelli returns to full fitness.

What Reiss Nelson has said about Charles Sagoe Jr?

Arsenal could’ve done with Reiss Nelson in the squad now, but the Englishman is on loan at Fulham until the end of this season.

The 25-year-old has played with and against some great players over the years, and he feels Sagoe Jr has what it takes to play for the Arsenal first team.

In an episode of ‘Hale End Days’, Nelson told the youngster: “I’ve been watching you, because I watch a lot of the U21 games and literally, I’m not just saying this because you’re here and doing the interview, but you have got everything to become an Arsenal winger.

“You’re unpredictable, you know how to move the ball on your left, on your right, you can score, you can assist, you’ve got everything.

“It’s just literally about keeping your head down and just not getting distracted or disheartened by anything that happens in the journey towards you getting to the first team.”
