Viktor Gyokeres has divided opinion since joining Arsenal.
The Sweden international joined the Gunners from Sporting CP in the summer and managed to score three goals in his first four Premier League games.
Gyokeres hasn’t found the net since, and that has resulted in criticism from pundits and even some of Arsenal’s own fans.
However, Gyokeres is still offering a lot to Arsenal every game.
Viktor Gyokeres outshines all other Premier League strikers in one key stat
A striker is judged by the goals he scores, and the same applies to Viktor Gyokeres.
The Arsenal forward’s record this season reads three goals in 10 games, which is not a great return considering he scored 97 times in the last two campaigns.
However, Gyokeres puts in a lot of effort every time he steps onto the pitch, and numbers show that nobody else is on his level.
According to official data released by the Premier League’s website, the Swede has covered more distance than any other striker in the English top-flight – 71.7 kilometres in seven games.
A lot of the above has come with his pressing.
Furthermore, Gyokeres has also applied more pressures inside the opposition third and box than any player in the Premier League.
These records are incredible for a striker – not even Erling Haaland can match them. But the Manchester City striker scores goals in almost every game, which is what Gyokeres needs to start doing now.
| Distance covered | High pressures applied in the final third | High pressures applied in the final third | |
| Viktor Gyokeres for Arsenal | 71.7km | 169 | 73 |
Viktor Gyokeres needs help from his Arsenal teammates
Gyokeres covers a lot of ground every game for Arsenal, and many of his runs drag defenders away and free up space for his teammates.
The 27-year-old’s hard work is paying off in that regard, but he needs the players around to work hard for him as well.
In the 10 games he has played so far, Gyokeres hasn’t had much service. His runs are often ignored, and a lot of the cut-backs and crosses inside the box don’t reach him.
The next task for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal’s other attackers is to start creating chances for Gyokeres. Once they find a way to do that, it will rain goals at the Emirates.
