Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal has turned into quite the transfer saga in recent weeks.
Arsenal want to sign Gyokeres, and personal terms are all agreed.
However, negotiations with Sporting CP have become very difficult, so much so that Gyokeres has gone on strike.
The forward hasn’t reported back to training with his current club, and, as you can imagine, Sporting aren’t best pleased with this sort of behaviour.
Speaking on The Transfers Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared an update on Viktor Gyokeres’ situation, and he’s given some insight into what’s been going on at Sporting after the attacker went on strike.

Viktor Gyokeres’ lawyers send Sporting CP message
According to Castles, Sporting wrote to Gyokeres this week to suggest that he was in breach of his contract.
Gyokeres has been absent without permission, so Sporting are threatening action here.
However, Gyokeres’ lawyers believe that the striker hasn’t done anything wrong here due to the fact he supposedly had a gentleman’s agreement to leave the club this summer.
“Last week, on Wednesday, Sporting wrote to Gyokeres to tell him that he was in breach of contract, to which his lawyers replied saying they didn’t feel he was in breach of contract because he had promises from the club that he could leave this summer and they have reneged on these promises, so that is going on in the background,” Castles said.
Viktor Gyokeres tipped to receive punishment for Sporting strike
Sporting aren’t best pleased with their star striker after how he’s acted in recent weeks, and Gyokeres could be punished here.
Indeed, according to Nedum Onuoha, Gyokeres could be fined by Sporting for what he has done.
“I think one thing that happens is the way the clubs tend to get you back, you might start paying fines, for example. But in reality, this is probably going to end up with Gyokeres going there because he’s decided to burn that bridge,” Onuoha said.
Gyokeres may well be docked pay after going on strike, but he may not be too fussed by that development.
Indeed, Gyokeres is prepared to give up a lot of money to force through his move to Arsenal, so a fine from Sporting probably won’t affect him all that much.
We’re sure the signing-on fee the striker receives once he eventually joins Arsenal will more than cover any lost earnings from this period.
