Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain had several special moments even beyond the goals, as a Hale End star made his European debut.

Summer signing Mikel Merino received a strong reception as he made his long-awaited debut as a substitute, and he was not the only player to make their Champions League bow for Arsenal.

Hale End sensation Myles Lewis-Skelly also came on for his Champions League debut, having recently made his first start against Bolton in the Carabao Cup, as well as a Premier League debut away at Manchester City.

It has been a dream few weeks for the 18-year-old, who earned his opportunities after a strong pre-season campaign under Mikel Arteta, and he is continuing to go from strength to strength in the academy sides.

As Lewis-Skelly came on for Bukayo Saka in the Champions League, members of his family were watching in the Emirates Stadium, and they were clearly delighted as he embarked on one of the most significant moments of his career so far.

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s mum reacts to his Arsenal Champions League debut

Lewis-Skelly’s mother Marcia was sat in the upper tier of the Emirates Stadium for Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over PSG, and was there to witness her son come on to make his Champions League debut for his boyhood club.

Her heartwarming reaction showed her surprise as Lewis-Skelly came on for Saka, ahead of summer signing Raheem Sterling, and she could not hide her joy as he entered the pitch.

Lewis-Skelly only came on for the final few minutes of the victory, but this was still a huge moment for him and his family, and showed the increased role he is set to be given this season.

Although Ethan Nwaneri has stolen most of the headlines out of all the talents in the Hale End Academy, Lewis-Skelly is another gem who has the potential to become a star.

Arteta clearly rates the teenager highly, and appears to be moulding the midfielder into an inverted left-back.

With several defenders injured, Lewis-Skelly is taking his opportunities to enter the first-team, and he will be eyeing up another start as Arsenal face Preston in the next round of the Carabao Cup.
