Wayne Rooney has urged Michael Carrick to implement the same game plan against Arsenal as the one which saw Man United beat City.
The United legend believes that Mikel Arteta’s team are likely to have more of the ball, as City did, and United will have chances to catch them on the break.
Speaking on the Wayne Rooney Podcast, he said: “We used to love playing against Arsenal because Arsenal would take the ball, and the performance you’ve seen yesterday was almost a mirror image of how we were playing against Arsenal when we were playing.”

One big advantage Carrick’s team have is that they have one week to prepare for the clash, whereas Arsenal have just travelled to the San Siro in midweek.
“So I think for Michael, his game plan is simple, exactly the same way as you’ve just played against Manchester City. He’ll have a full week now to work on executing that again against Arsenal,” added Rooney.
“Whereas if it’s a lesser team at Old Trafford, then you know you’re going to have more of the ball, you know you’re going to have to work on different things slightly.
“So I actually think this simplifies it for them going into the Arsenal game, tactically, it’s the exact same game plan.”

Rooney believes that Arsenal’s draw against Nottingham Forest was actually a good result for Arteta’s team.
He told BBC Match of the Day: “I do think that was a massive point for Arsenal. I think with Man City losing to go and get a point.
“I know they would want three, but to extend the lead to Man City to seven points and get that point, I think that’s a huge point for them.”
