Wayne Rooney has just said something about Jurrien Timber that’s going to really annoy Arsenal fans

Arsenal continue their pursuit of Champions League glory on Wednesday night as they travel to Spain to take on Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

The Gunners are 13 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, and thus, their season hinges on the outcome of their tie with Los Blancos.

Thankfully for Mikel Arteta, Arsenal beat Real Madrid 3-0 in the first leg, meaning the Gunners are in a very strong position to progress into the last four of Europe’s elite competition.

While overcoming this three-goal deficit appears unlikely for the Spanish giants, Carlo Ancelotti has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal, with these talented footballers more than capable of producing a magical display against the North Londoners.

Wayne Rooney emits Jurrien Timber from his Arsenal and Real Madrid combined XI

Steve McManaman infuriated Gunners fans with his combined Real Madrid and Arsenal eleven before the first leg, and Wayne Rooney is the latest to provoke this reaction via Prime Video Sport on Instagram.

With excellent players on both sides, picking a combined team certainly isn’t easy, but Rooney has certainly made some bizarre choices.

Like McManaman, the Manchester United legend picked Rodrygo over Bukayo Saka, as well as Jude Bellingham over Martin Odegaard.

However, perhaps more egregiously, the pundit selected Lucas Vasquez over Jurrien Timber at right-back.

Vasquez hasn’t been starting in this role for Ancelotti in recent months, with the Italian preferring to move Federico Valverde out of position, instead of using the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Timber has played almost every game for the Gunners this campaign, and excelled in the process.

Rooney’s Arsenal and Real Madrid combined XI: Courtois, Vasquez, Saliba, Rudiger, Lewis-Skelly, Rice, Camavinga, Bellingham, Rodrygo, Mbappe, Vinicius.

Arsenal fans weren’t happy with Wayne Rooney’s combined XI

With Arsenal’s presence in this combined eleven limited, the Gunners faithful unsurprisingly vented their frustrations by responding to Rooney online.

One fan replied to Prim Video’s post on Instagram, writing: “Lucas Vasquez and not Timber? 0% ball knowledge.”

Another added: “Vasquez over Timber and Rice over Valverde?? Haha.”

Meanwhile, one supporter simply wrote: “I thought Rooney knew football.”

One more added: “Lucas over Timber is criminal.”

Arsenal will have the opportunity at the Bernabeu to once again prove why the media are overlooking them, in favour of a star-studded Real Madrid team with little cohesion.
