Wayne Rooney has highlighted the importance of Viktor Gyokeres on Bukayo Saka following the Gunners’ win over Fulham.

The former Premier League striker is a big fan of the Swede, and he thinks that he helps others around him to elevate their game.

One of the players who is benefiting from Gyokeres this season is Saka, and Rooney has been speaking about the winger’s return to action.

Speaking about the importance of Saka, Rooney told BBC Sport: “He was brilliant (Saka) for those 45 minutes; he was brilliant.

I’ve said about Gyokeres, I really like him, I like how he works the defenders. It brings the number 10s, the wide players, into more space.

“So I’m really pleased with him, because he has gone through a bit of a stick, but Saka’s comeback is huge.

“Listen, he probably won’t want to go off yesterday, you want to play all the games, you want to finish the games.”

Saka could now be part of a historic end to the season for the Gunners with both the Premier League and Champions League on the line.

The North London club take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday evening and will fancy their chances of advancing.

Meanwhile, Gyokeres’ importance to the team remains high after he reached 21 for the season following his brace.

The 27-year-old has been heavily scrutinised this season, but his goal tally is still so impressive.
