Wayne Rooney has named just two current Arsenal players in Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber, who would get into Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United team.

The former Manchester United striker played in a truly remarkable team at Old Trafford during the 2007/08 season, and he thinks just two Arsenal players would make the cut.

🤔 Is Wayne Rooney right that ONLY Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber are the ONLY current Arsenal players making it into this Man Utd team?

During that season under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Red Devils won the Premier League and Champions League double – a feat Mikel Arteta’s team are now bidding to match.

Rooney has now been comparing that legendary United team to the current Arsenal squad, and he thinks there is room for just two current Gunners.

Wayne Rooney believes that Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber would start ahead of Owen Hargreaves and Wes Brown in Manchester United’s 2008 team.

The ex-United star claims that because Brown was ‘not really a right back’, Timber would get in ahead of him, being a better-suited option.

Meanwhile, in midfield, Rice would start ahead of Hargreaves, who actually featured in a right-wing role during the final in Moscow.

“Timber’s been brilliant. Wes was not really a right back. Wes was better as a centre back. So in terms of an actual right back, Timber’s probably more suited to that,” claimed Rooney.

Later, Rooney was then asked whether he would pick Hargreaves or Rice, to which he replied: “Yeah, Rice, Rice yeah.”

That means there is no room for William Saliba or Gabriel Magalhaes, who would be up against Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

Bukayo Saka would also have a case to start, but elsewhere, it’s hard to see any of Arsenal’s attackers starting over Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Rooney.

Wayne Rooney on Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes

Rooney is still backing Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes as they have looked consistently stronger than Manchester City this season.

“I think Arsenal look strong. City have been a bit in and out, and you’ve obviously got great players, great manager,” Rooney stated.

“So they’re definitely still in the tight race, but I think Arsenal look strong and consistent throughout the season.

“I think it’s be difficult to see them slipping up and City winning every game. So, I still think Arsenal are hot favourites.”
