On Friday at 11 am GMT, Arsenal will learn their route in the Champions League, facing either Bayer Leverkusen or Atalanta in March.

Ahead of the draw, Rooney has now been assessing the North London club’s chances of winning the big European prize this campaign.

Wayne Rooney backs Arsenal to reach the Champions League final

Wayne Rooney is backing Arsenal to reach the Champions League final following their impressive form during the group stage.

Speaking to Prime Video Sport, the former Manchester United striker smiled and said “the final” when asked how far the Gunners will progress.

Theo Walcott also gave his predictions for the competition and is also backing the club to reach the final, but also go one better by suggesting they will win it.

Rather interestingly, Rooney also claimed both Liverpool and Man City would make the semi-finals, with a strong possibility Arsenal would have to face either team.

Mikel Arteta’s team are undoubtedly one of the favourites to be crowned champions of Europe this season, having dominated the group stage.

If Arsenal could only win one trophy out of the Premier League and the Champions League this season, which one would you pick and why?

The Gunners have already defeated teams like Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid to make it eight wins from eight.

The North Londoners will be intently watching the draw from Nyom, but will fancy their chances of beating either Bayer Leverkusen or Atalanta in the Round of 16.

What Arteta needs to prove is that he can deal with the demands of competing in both the Premier League and Champions League, whilst also in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

The Gunners are on the precipice of a historic campaign, but now it’s the time for this team to show they can cope with the pressures in the business end of the season.

The 4-1 win away at Tottenham over the weekend could be the moment which re-ignites the team’s season following a slight blip at Brentford and Wolves.
