The Manchester United icon produced incredible moments for the Red Devils for a number of years and won everything under Sir Alex Ferguson.

If there’s anyone who has done enough in the game to judge the best players in the Premier League right now, it’s Rooney.

The Englishman has revealed his top five players in the top-flight this season, and Arsenal target and Newcastle United star Alexander Isak was ranked second on his list.

Rooney chose the Swede above Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who ranked fifth, fourth and third, respectively.

Mohamed Salah is the only one who has been better than Isak in the Premier League, claimed Rooney while speaking to Amazon Prime Video Sport.

“In second place, I’ll go with Isak of Newcastle,” Rooney said.

“I think his all-around play, his goals, obviously scoring a goal in the final as well, so he would be my number two pick.”

What Arsenal have accepted about Alexander Isak

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Isak for a long time now.

The Gunners have wanted to sign the Sweden international since he was at Real Sociedad many years ago, but a move did not materialise then. Newcastle then signed him for £63 million in 2022.

The North Londoners still would love Isak, but Graeme Bailey exclusively told Arsenal Insider that Arsenal have accepted that Isak is Liverpool-bound.

That would be a real shame, but Berta will have plenty more options on his list, and it will be interesting to see who he will bring in.
