Arsenal have had several world-class players in their squads over the years.
Arsene Wenger built a tremendous side many years ago, and that team broke all sorts of records in England and won multiple Premier League titles.
Wayne Rooney came up against some of those legendary Arsenal players, and he is a great judge of how good many of them were.
The Manchester United icon has now had his say on one of them.
Wayne Rooney says Thierry Henry was better than Kylian Mbappe and two other superstars
Thierry Henry is arguably the greatest player to ever play the game.
The legendary Frenchman joined Arsenal from Juventus in 1999, and although he didn’t hit the ground running, he became a superstar in England.
Henry was mostly a wide player before he moved to North London, but Wenger saw something in him that convinced him that he was better off as a centre-forward.
That decision paid off big-time as Henry dominated the Premier League throughout his time at Arsenal before he left for Barcelona for £16.1 million (BBC).
Rooney played against Henry back in the day, and the former England captain rates him very highly.
In a game of winner stays on in a video on the Champions League’s official social channels, Rooney suggested that Henry was better than Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe.
The Englishman further picked Henry over Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and also Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Thierry Henry’s stats compared to Wayne Rooney
Henry and Rooney were two of the greatest forwards to play in the Premier League.
The Frenchman dominated the division when he was at Arsenal, and Rooney did the same for Manchester United after Henry moved on.
Here’s how Henry and Rooney’s numbers fare against each other during their times at Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.
| Games | Goals | Assists | Minutes per goal or assist | |
| Thierry Henry at Arsenal | 377 | 228 | 96 | 94.23 |
| Wayne Rooney at Manchester United | 559 | 253 | 138 | 114.54 |
Rooney stayed at Manchester United for a lot longer than Henry did at Arsenal, but the Frenchman’s numbers are still very close.
Henry scored just 25 goals fewer than Rooney even though the United icon played 182 more games during his time at Old Trafford.
The Arsenal legend boasts a better goal contribution rate than Rooney too, which shows just how good he was back in the day.
