Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta faced the media after his side came from behind to beat Leicester City 3-1 on Sunday.
The Gunners conceded a sloppy goal just six minutes into the game. Youri Tielemans’ strike was very avoidable, but we let him run 40 yards and have a shot at goal, and the Belgian couldn’t have been happier.
It did look like one of those days at that point, but Arsenal bounced back. Goals from David Luiz and Alexandre Lacazette put us ahead at the break. Nicolas Pepe scored in the second half, and that killed the game off.
Arteta was delighted with the character his side showed to come from behind and win the game. However, he was not happy about conceding another very early goal – something he claims that we have to ‘eradicate’ very soon.
He said, as per Arsenal.com: “Every game is going to be different. What we’ve done today is not going to have a knock-on effect on the next Premier League game, but I think the team is clearly improving and is taking a direction that I like.
“Then all the time I say the same thing, about the constancy. We are still giving things to the opponent.
“We did it against Benfica, we did it against Benfica at home, we’ve done it today against a more dangerous team in short transitions, and that’s something that we have to eradicate to give ourselves the best possible chance.”
Arsenal Insider’s view:
Most of Arsenal’s losses this season have been because of our own mistakes rather than our opponents’ brilliance.
We gifted three goals to Benfica, one to Aston Villa and Wolves, and the ones against Manchester City and Leicester last night could have easily been avoided.
There is absolutely no doubt about the fact that Arsenal are improving. However, we just can’t keep giving away cheap goals to top-quality sides, just as we’ve been doing for a big part of this season.
