We left Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, now we’re combining for goals at new club

Arsenal have sold or released a lot of players since Mikel Arteta became manager in 2019, and some are thriving elsewhere.

Just two players from the starting lineup for Arteta’s first game as Arsenal manager remain at the club, as Edu Gaspar helped the Spaniard clear out and rebuild the squad.

In addition to first-team players leaving, a lot of academy talents naturally left each year after failing to earn contracts with the club. Whilst Arsenal did want to keep some, such as the recently departed Chido Obi-Martin, academy stars moving on is an inevitable process at any club.

Arsenal also signed and sold several players who were far away from first-team level, and some still remain within English football, with goalkeeper Matt Turner moving to Nottingham Forest after an unsuccessful year at the Emirates.

Two former Arsenal players who departed in recent years are now playing together at recently relegated Sheffield United, and they have now combined for a significant goal.

Former Arsenal players Auston Trusty and Sydie Peck are now at Sheffield United

Ex-Arsenal defender Auston Trusty, and midfielder Sydie Peck are now playing together at Championship side Sheffield United.

Trusty signed for Arsenal on loan from MLS side Colorado Rapids in January 2022, and remained on loan there until the end of the season. He then enjoyed a productive loan spell at Birmingham City, before the USA International moved to Bramall Lane a year ago.

Peck is a name less familiar to Arsenal fans. The midfielder spent over 10 years at Arsenal before departing on a free transfer in 2021.

“Due to certain circumstances that unfolded I have decided to leave,” he wrote on his Instagram account after departing.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and guidance from everyone at the club, and all the coaches and medical team who have played an important role in my development over the years and especially making it a brilliant journey for me which has made me a better person and a better player.”

He joined Sheffield United’s academy, and the 19-year-old made his senior debut last season. He is a highly-rated talent at the club, and he shone in their 4-2 victory over Wrexham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Auston Trusty and Sydie Peck combine for goal in Carabao Cup

Both ex-Arsenal players were in the starting lineup as Sheffield United hosted Wrexham in the Carabao Cup, and the home side were in danger of a shock exit as they fell behind to the League One side.

They then formed an Arsenal connection to find an equaliser. Peck fired a corner in, which was met by a bullet header from Trusty.

The header was heading towards the bottom corner before a Wrexham defender thought he had cleared it off the line, but goalline technology awarded the goal.

It was Trusty’s first goal for Sheffield United, and it was provided by a former Arsenal youngster. Both players performed well as their side recorded a 4-2 win to progress to the next round of the competition, and they will hope that they can play significant minutes this season.
