Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes say why they’d love to play with Viktor Gyokeres
Speaking on the latest episode (February 23rd) of The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, former Man United duo Butt and Scholes were full of praise for Gyokeres.
“I was delighted for him when he scored his two goals. He’s had a lot of rubbish and a lot of pressure on him hasn’t he? A load of stick off Arsenal fans and his finishes yesterday, he hit them as clean as a whistle didn’t he,” Butt said.

Adding his own comments to the debate, Scholes then said that ‘he’d love to play with him’ before Butt added more weight to his opinion.
“If he was playing for, let’s say a Forest now, he gets bought next year for £70-80m. He does the horrible stuff, he’ll chase a lost cause, he’ll hold the ball, he’ll battle people.”
Scholes then added.
“I think as a team, and as his teammate, we’d absolutely love him.”
Viktor Gyokeres’ form for Arsenal in 2026
For all the criticism levelled at Viktor Gyokeres, he is actually the best striker in the league in terms of output in 2026 so far.
Gyokeres has netted eight times in 14 appearances and he has five in his last five league games, the same amount as he’d scored in the entirety of 2025.
Viktor Gyokeres has eight goals in 2026, how many more will he score before the end of the season?
With the season entering the most crucial time for Arsenal, seeing Gyokeres’ upturn in form has been exactly what Mikel Arteta was looking for.
In a way, it feels like a new signing and with 20 goals firmly in his sights for the season, it doesn’t matter how people dress it up, his signing has been a success.
