Wenger interview
Arsene Wenger has responded to Alexis Sanchez comments of wanting to stay in London and play for a successful team with ‘there is only one team in London anyway’. That’s one way to try and win back the fans Arsene.
Another clear indication that Wenger is staying is his talk of strengthening the team in the summer. He admitted that the team has strong bases but has its flaws so this will need to be addressed.
Wenger has said his future has not yet been sorted completely. He also feels that this uncertainty is not affecting the team or its performances, which does make me wonder if the players already know of his decision.
The Frenchman has admitted that the team do not defend well enough. The frustrating thing about that statement is we have all known this for years.
There is still no official announcement despite Wenger saying it would be announced very soon after the West Bromwich Albion game.
However, he has added that he expects both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to both stay at the club and sign new contracts in the summer as he believes both want to stay.
Vieira blame
Ex-Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has said the blame should be on the players and not manager Arsene Wenger for the team’s poor performance. He added that the players need to take responsibility and perform for the team week in and week out.
Transfers rumours in
A new one in the Mirror, with Arsenal entering the race for Udinese midfielder Jakub Jankto. The 21 year old is being lined up as a possible replacement for French midfielder Francis Coquelin, who has been poor for the majority of the season.
Another midfielder also being linked to the club is Real Madrid star Marco Asensio who is rated at £40m, whether Asensio would leave Madrid for Arsenal is debatable.
Early team news
Manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that German international Mesut Ozil is in contention to start against Manchester City on Sunday. Ozil played 20 minutes for Germany in midweek and according to Wenger he has come back focused and has trained hard in in training so far this week.
Injuries
It seems the club is the most injury prone club in recent Premier League history according to statistics. The report shows that since 2011/12 season, Arsenal have had players out injured for a massive 10,285 days that’s more than 700 days to nearest injury rivals Manchester United. To put that into comparison, Chelsea’s days for players injured amount to 4559 over the same period.
Unlucky with injuries? Or is there perhaps something not right with the training or warming up before games. Something certainly needs to be looked at as how many times have the fans felt we have lost titles due to players being injured.
