What Brazil’s media honestly felt about Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes’ performance in Venezuela draw

Gabriel Magalhaes has been outstanding for Arsenal over the past few seasons, and his reputation is growing in his native Brazil.

It took some time for the defender to gain recognition with his National Team, and Gabriel was overlooked for the 2022 World Cup as Brazil reached the quarter-finals.

His consistent performances for Arsenal have since earned him a spot in the Brazil squad, and he has essentially replaced Thiago Silva as their starter alongside Paris Saint-Germain star Marquinhos.

Brazil are struggling for their best form, and drew 1-1 with Venezuela in a World Cup qualification match.

Gabriel played the entire 90 minutes, and the media in Brazil had a lot to say about his performance.

Brazil’s media deliver verdict on Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes’ performance vs Venezuela

Brazil fell to a 1-1 draw as Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior missed a penalty, but Gabriel was one of their more solid performers.

Gabriel was previously criticised in Brazil for not playing enough vertical passes, as he often does with Arsenal, but whilst this has been highlighted again, the Brazilian media were appreciative of the 27-year-old’s defensive reliability.

Terra gave Gabriel a 6.0 match rating, which they gave to the entire back four, with the defence powerless to prevent Venezuela’s stunning equaliser through Telasco Segovia.

Jogada10 gave Gabriel a rating of 6.5/10, highlighting his security on the ball.

“He made important cuts after Ederson’s mistake and was also safe on the ball outings. It is another that shows security,” they stated of the Arsenal star.

GE Globo pointed out that Gabriel’s passing on the day was not at the same level as he otherwise shows with Arsenal on the ball.

“Same level as a companion. It goes well in direct combat, but still does not risk as much at the exit of the ball as it is used to doing in his club,” they pointed out as they gave him a 6/10 match rating.

Gabriel Magalhaes’ next Brazil game

Arsenal will be monitoring Gabriel closely as he is set to play another match for Brazil in this international break.

The Selecao will return to Brazil from Venezuela, before playing a crucial World Cup qualifier against Uruguay on Wednesday, November 20, in Bahia.

This will see Gabriel face Liverpool star Darwin Nunez, having recently played against each other in a 2-2 draw in which the Arsenal defender was forced off with injury.

Gabriel is almost certain to start alongside Marquinhos again, with Brazil heading into the match one point ahead of Marcelo Bielsa’s team, but having played an extra game.
