Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move to Arsenal on a few occasions in the past.

The Portuguese superstar is one of the greatest players to ever play the game. He has achieved it all at club level and is still going strong at 39 years of age.

Ronaldo currently plays his football in Saudi Arabia. He is the biggest name in the league there, and his numbers remain incredibly strong.

Arsenal’s interest in Ronaldo before he first joined Manchester United is well-known, but the Gunners tried to sign him again in 2018, claims Patrice Evra.

What Cristiano Ronaldo said about joining Arsenal in 2018

Ronaldo started his career at Sporting CP before he moved to Manchester United. He then joined Real Madrid in a world-record deal and became an even bigger superstar there.

In 2018, Ronaldo left the Galacticos and moved to Juventus. It was a big move at the time, and he did well in Turin, helping the Old Lady win two league titles.

However, Juventus weren’t the only club interested in signing Ronaldo in 2018.

Evra, who knows Ronaldo very well having played with him for many years, has now revealed that four other clubs were interested in signing Ronaldo after he decided to leave Real Madrid.

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Chelsea were three of those, but Evra has shockingly claimed that Arsenal were in for him too.

However, Ronaldo apparently said at the time that he was ‘never’ going to join Arsenal. He chose Juventus in the end.

Evra said on a podcast on RMC Sports: “Has Cristiano ever wanted to come to PSG? Yes. There was Paris, Arsenal… That was before he signed for Juventus (in 2018). He had Chelsea, Juventus, Paris.

“He said he would never go to Arsenal.

“He was interested in the (PSG) project. You can criticise Cristiano, but he would have adapted. He would have made an effort. Look at what he is doing in Saudi Arabia. He is a Saudi!”

Arsenal wanting to sign Ronaldo in 2018 is hard to believe

Every club in the world would’ve loved to sign Ronaldo in his prime – he was incredible.

Arsene Wenger tried to sign the Portugal international before he went to Manchester United – we’ve all heard that story many times.

However, the Gunners being interested in Ronaldo in 2018 is really hard to believe.

That’s because Wenger left Arsenal that summer and Unai Emery had just arrived. The North Londoners were in a period of transition and weren’t even in the Champions League.

To add to that, Arsenal had signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just six months prior – they didn’t need an attacker that summer and didn’t end up signing one.

We’re really struggling to believe that Arsenal tried to land Ronaldo in 2018.
