Arsenal fans were left feeling frustrated as the side missed out on the chance to close the gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool over the weekend.

With the Merseyside derby called off, the Gunners had a chance to put pressure on their rivals but had the tough task of travelling to Fulham.

Raul Jimenez opened the scoring at Craven Cottage before William Saliba drew Arsenal level from a corner.

Frustratingly for Mikel Arteta, his side was unable to find a winner, with the shared points putting the advantage back to Liverpool.

While the Gunners did push hard to find that important second goal, Gary Neville was left frustrated by one particular thing late in the match.

Declan Rice annoyed Gary Neville with Arsenal set-piece time

While Arsenal were searching for an all-important goal at Fulham, set-pieces proved their most likely source of them once again.

There was, however, clear frustration from Neville over the time it took Declan Rice to take the corners and free-kicks for the side.

Speaking on NBC, the former Manchester United man said: “Their [Arsenal’s] play is good, their general structure of a game in terms of them moving forward is good but they have such an emphasis on the set-pieces, they take such an age to take them as well.

“Declan Rice, I was actually urging him with five, six minutes to go, he was walking over, ambling over, which is what they do to set up these corners.

“But you need a goal and there’s got to be a desperation and an urgency in making sure that they realise these are big moments.”

It’s a clear frustration that the urgency wasn’t there for the side, especially in a moment where the game was in the balance.

It may be something they look to work on when setting up the set-pieces in the weeks ahead.

Do Arsenal rely too much on set-pieces?

One question that has come from the past few games is whether Arsenal are too reliant on scoring those big set-piece goals.

It has bailed them out of a few games as of late, while their open-play ability to create has often fluctuated between dangerous and blunt.

One thing Arteta has looked to stress is the importance of becoming great at everything, not just at set-pieces, though they are a facet of that.

While there is a reliance on those free-kicks and corners when teams are tough to break down, Arsenal aren’t playing specifically for them.

Instead, they are looking to create but are struggling and their brilliance at set-pieces has helped get them over the line.

Arsenal aren’t over-reliant on set-pieces, they just need to combine it with open play threat more often.
