Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior worked his way into the starting XI for a productive spell in recent months, but his future is far from certain.
The 24-year-old joined from Serie A side Spezia 18 months ago, but it took some time for him to earn regular game time under Mikel Arteta.
Kiwior came in for a run of games at left-back in February where he impressed at times, but eventually lost his spot after a disastrous performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The Poland International has been linked with a move back to Serie A, with AC Milan among the clubs interested in his signature, and an Arsenal exit cannot be ruled out. However, he is highly rated by Arteta’s coaching staff.
Arsenal staff impressed by Jakub Kiwior’s physical attributes
A report from The Athletic has now revealed that Arsenal staff were blown away by Kiwior’s physical attributes when he first arrived at the club, with his athleticism particularly shining.
“Since arriving at Arsenal, Kiwior has impressed with his technique and athleticism. At his initial medical assessments, staff were impressed by his planking ability and turn of pace. Even when away from official training, he works on his flexibility,” the report stated.
With Oleksandr Zinchenko – who welcomed Kiwior into the Arsenal squad before his move was finalised – picking up criticism for his defensive ability, Kiwior has been seen as a more defensive option, despite his natural position being at centre-back.
Is there more to come from Jakub Kiwior?

Kiwior’s extended run in the team saw him dramatically improve after initially struggling at left-back, and whilst it is clear that his natural position is not on the flank, Arsenal may be intrigued by what his potential is.
If a significant offer arrives, a sale does make some sense given that his value is unlikely to increase without regular game time.
However, Kiwior’s physical attributes are so impressive that Arteta may not be prepared to give up on him yet, and if the coaching staff believe that he has another level he can reach, then perhaps keeping the defender and continuing to give him minutes wherever possible is the best move this summer.
