What Julian Alvarez’s intermediaries are now doing amid interest from Arsenal

If you’re an Arsenal fan right now, the idea that Julian Alvarez is on the list of potential signings is quite something.

Alvarez is being linked with Arsenal ahead of a potential summer move as every big club in Europe looks to position themselves to do business again.

Nothing is expected in January, with Alvarez likely to cost £100m and more to prise away from Atletico Madrid.

Nevertheless, the interest is there and has been for some time from Arsenal and others.

Still, while it’s exciting to think of Alvarez in an Arsenal shirt, it’s also worth noting that sometimes, these things get blown out of proportion.

And according to journalist Ben Jacobs, that might be the case here.

What Julian Alvarez’s representatives are actually doing

Not to rain on anyone’s parade who was excited about the Alvarez to Arsenal deal, but it does seem like some might have got carried away.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Football Terrace podcast, journalist Jacobs explained just what he believes is happening right now with Alvarez.

“So Julian Alvarez and Barcelona, potentially. We hear a lot about Arsenal and Chelsea. I think it’s more just intermediaries offering the player around and letting them know that Alvarez is considering options for the summer,” Jacobs revealed.

“I don’t think at this stage Arsenal have done anything, nor have Chelsea. And from Chelsea’s point of view, they’ll have to assess whether they want another profile like a Julian Alvarez.

“Certainly a creative attacker, whether in midfield or further forwards, is on the agenda for Chelsea in 2026. But I’m not aware of anything formal or direct or to get excited about from either Chelsea or Arsenal or Man United for Julian Alvarez other than the fact that intermediaries are basically offering the player around.

“And just a bit of insight as well, because I think it’s quite interesting how it works.”

Julian Alvarez could be the transfer saga of the summer

There is the old saying that there’s no smoke without fire and it certainly seems to be the case with Julian Alvarez and Arsenal.

However, we should also remain cautious.

We’ve been here before with transfer sagas – think Dusan Vlahovic – and Gunners fans will do well to not let themselves get too excited about something that is months away from happening at best.

There’ll also be other clubs right in the mix as well. Alvarez is one of the world’s best number nines and these sorts of player are in-demand.

For now, we can enjoy the links and being involved. But come the summer, this is likely to have multiple twists and turns as it plays out to a conclusion.
