What Martin Odegaard is telling Arsenal teammates behind closed doors as club captain targets Premier League title

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has his heart set on lifting the Premier League trophy in May 2025. 

Odegaard played a vital part in Arsenal’s title charge last season, captaining the side to finish just two points behind champions Manchester City. 

The midfielder will be hopeful of finally delivering the Premier League title to North London this term, as the 2024/25 calendar kicks off against Wolves on Saturday.

Ahead of the fixture, the 25-year-old opened up about what he says behind the scenes to motivate his teammates around him at Arsenal.

What Martin Odegaard says to his Arsenal teammates

Taking the time to sit down with Hale End star Ethan Nwaneri, Odegaard shed some light on what he tells those around him at Colney.

Arsenal’s media team shared a snippet of the conversation on Instagram, where the club captain gave Nwaneri some advice. 

“The main thing I always say is you have to play your game and you have to enjoy and play with confidence,” Odegaard explained.

“The main thing is to play your game and feel like you’re good enough to be where you are but I think it’s important to do things your way as well and live and learn.”

After being picked up by Real Madrid back in 2015 when he was just 16 years old, the Arsenal captain’s words will resonate with Nwaneri, who is only 17 himself.

The skipper’s insight into what he tells his teammates is translated on the pitch, as Arsenal have become a team built on belief and spirit since their revolution under Arteta.

Arsenal will be eyeing the Premier League title

Odegaard’s words ring true however, what matters most is that such belief is backed up with silverware this season.

Arsenal have come on leaps and bounds over the past few years, closing the gap between themselves and Manchester City significantly to be consistently considered title challengers.

After missing out narrowly last season, now is the time for the Gunners to show what they’re made of, with just two points separating them from City last term.

Odegaard could become the first Arsenal captain to lift the Premier League trophy since Patrick Vieira in 2004, reinforcing the importance of his influence and impact on his squad where possible.
