Arsenal star Jakub Kiwior started for Poland in their Nations League clash against Croatia in Warsaw.

The 24-year-old joined the Gunners from Spezia in Italy in January 2023. He has never been a regular but has played 42 games under Mikel Arteta so far.

The versatile defender is a regular for the Polish national team. He has won 28 international caps and is almost always a guaranteed starter.

Against Croatia on Tuesday night, Kiwior played the full 90 minutes and has earned some mixed reviews from his country’s press.

Poland’s media deliver verdict on Arsenal star Jakub Kiwior’s display vs Croatia

Croatia and Poland played out a crazy game in the Kazimierz Górski National Stadium in Warsaw on Tuesday night.

Piotr Zielinski opened the scoring for the Poles in the fifth minute, but Croatia hit back with three goals in the space of seven minutes to take a 3-1 lead.

Poland, however, did not give up. They fought back and scored two more goals through Nicola Zalewski and Sebastian Szymański.

Kiwior couldn’t do much with any of Croatia’s goals and was solid for large parts of the game. However, there were a few moments where he lost concentration, and that could’ve cost his side.

Meczyki rated Kiwior 5 out of 6 and wrote: “Kiwior’s solid return to representation. In the 57th minute, he took a nap, but the shot was saved by Bułka.

“Nevertheless, overall he was much more certain than in September, when he mercilessly let himself be beaten. More peace and responsibility, it’s hard to blame him for lost goals. A small light in the tunnel.”

Radio Zet gave him a 4/6 rating and said: “He had a lot of problems in the low defence game when Croatia entered our penalty area, but he also gave a lot of support as soon as he had to take the ball out of first third.”

Sport in Poland only gave Kiwior a 3/6 rating and wrote: “He played like the whole team. Good at first, when he probably looked in defence, but also surprisingly eager to play the ball and join offensive actions.

“Later, however, he went out, he became less and less certain. And finally – in the second half – he began to play better again and at the end of the match he stopped a good Croatian counterattack.”

Kiwior’s Poland display sums up his Arsenal career

Kiwior is a really talented player and you can see why Arteta signed him for Arsenal.

The Pole is versatile, good on the ball and is really solid at the back. His passing is very impressive as well and on his day, he is good enough to face any attacker.

However, the big problem with Kiwior is consistency. There are games where he can be flawless but he can also make several mistakes.

Kiwior’s performance against Croatia showed a lot of promise for the most part, but there were times when he lost his concentration and made errors.

That sums up his Arsenal career so far.
