Arsenal are set to kickstart talks with Thomas Partey over an extended stay at the club, with reports claiming that the Gunners want to offer a new contract to the midfielder.

The Ghanaian has impressed so far this season, getting over the injury issues he has faced in the past to be available to Mikel Arteta almost every week.

Having been a staple in the Arsenal team this campaign, doubts have grown over whether he could be around next season.

Partey is out of contract this summer, meaning he could be free to leave the club and join a new one in the months ahead.

There has been uncertainty about whether the midfielder will stay, but Andrea Berta has seemingly set his stance on keeping Thomas Partey.

Arsenal want Thomas Partey to stay as contract talks underway

With Partey nearing the final few months under contract and nearing the latter years of his peak, there has been uncertainty over whether he will start.

The midfielder could be in line for an Arsenal stay, though, with David Ornstein revealing the latest on his situation.

In a report for The Athletic, it’s claimed that Partey is “happy” and “enjoying family life” in London with the Gunners.

It’s also stated that he is open to staying, while contract talks are underway over a new possible two-year deal.

Whether that is structured as a two-year contract or a one-year contract with an extension of another year as a clause, it remains to be seen.

However, it shows that Arsenal are clearly open to keeping Partey for the foreseeable future, with the midfield rebuild shaping up.

Thomas Partey could save Arsenal millions on midfield rebuild

With Jorginho and Partey out of contract this summer, there has been plenty of talk surrounding a possible rebuild.

Martin Zubimendi has been linked with Arsenal as a replacement in the deeper midfield role, which would be an option in his prime.

However, beyond him, there would need to be another potential incoming to strengthen the central ranks in the months ahead.

If Partey is to stay, then he could offer another option and stop any need to make another signing, saving millions in transfer fees.
