Arsenal’s Men’s team are currently unbeaten under Mikel Arteta this season, thriving on all fronts, however, the same can’t be said for the Women’s first team.
Jonas Eidevall has been under intense scrutiny this season given that Arsenal WFC have only won one of their opening four Women’s Super League games.
Eidevall has been taking hits from many sections of the Arsenal fan base and after losing against Chelsea on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium, the Swede handed in his resignation.
Edu Gaspar thanked Eidevall for his contributions shortly after the decision and Arsenal announced that their search for their new head coach was ‘underway’.
In the meantime, first-team assistant coach Renee Slegers will take charge as interim head coach, a lesser-known name around N5.

Who is Renee Slegers?
Rene Slegers is the new Arsenal WFC interim head coach, and is taking temporary charge of the team following Jonas Eidevall’s resignation.
Slegers became FC Rosengard manager in 2021 over in Sweden, replacing Eidevall when he moved to Arsenal.
She led the team to successive Damallsvenskan titles in 2021 and 2022 before she left the post in 2023, a few months before being appointed as assistant manager at Arsenal.
Renee Slegers’ age, height and birthplace
Slegers was born on February 5, 1989, making her 35 years old at the time of writing. She was born in Someren-Eind in the Netherlands and stands at five feet and four inches tall.
Did Renee Slegers play for Arsenal?
Slegers never represented Arsenal Women’s senior team as a player but did spend time in the club’s academy back in 2006 when she was 17 years old.
Speaking in an interview when she first returned to Arsenal, Slegers recalled some memories from that time
“I actually took a walk through Oaklands College last Sunday when we had a day off and all the memories came back. We were living at the college with the other girls and we had a lot of things we did together.
“We went to school together, Alex Scott was one of the teachers in sports psychology, and Kelly Smith was an assistant coach. So I know her from back then and of course, the first team was very successful in those years.
“I remember watching Champions League games and got very impressed by how the first team played when I was a young girl. So yeah, just good memories.”
Renee Slegers’ playing career
In her senior career as a player, Slegers earned 55 caps for the Netherlands and also played in Sweden in her club career as well as her home country.
The midfielder represented Willem II before then moving on to Djurgardens IF and Linkopings FC later in her time as a player.
