Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League three seasons in a row, and on two of those occasions, Manchester City won the title.

The Gunners lost the first title race because of William Saliba’s injury, while in the following season, a defeat to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa at home cost them.

Manchester City will claim to be worthy winners on both occasions, but there is a lot of speculation about the sort of punishment they could face because of 115 charges.

Arsenal fans have been wondering if their club will be awarded two Premier League titles if City are stripped of theirs, but that is not going to happen because the alleged violations did not occur in the same period.

Why Arsenal will not receive two Premier League titles if Manchester City are stripped of their trophies

Many fans feel that Manchester City should be stripped of the titles they won if they are found guilty of the 115 charges.

If that were to happen, the assumption is that the clubs who finished as runners-up in the Premier League would automatically be crowned as champions, which seemed like good news for Arsenal.

However, the Gunners will not have any such luck, according to GiveMeSport.

That’s because the charges Manchester City are facing ‘are for allegedly violating financial regulations between 2009 and 2018’.

Arsenal did not finish in second place behind the Sky Blues in any of those seasons – they only did so in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns.

So, the only teams who will be awarded the Premier League titles, should City be stripped of theirs, are Manchester United twice in 2011/12 and 2017/18, and Liverpool in 2013/14.

Mikel Arteta’s side will be left empty-handed, as they were at the end of those two seasons when they finished second.
