Several Arsenal players are representing their countries at the FIFA World Cup.

We are now two weeks into the tournament and closing in on the end of the group stages. Many countries have already qualified for the next round, while a few others have suffered elimination.

Most of the Arsenal contingent in North America have been shining for their respective nations and doing everyone associated with the Gunners proud.

What’s more interesting is that Arsenal are profiting from their participation as well.

FIFA are paying Arsenal for allowing their players to play at the World Cup

Arsenal are among many clubs who are a part of the FIFA Club Benefits Programme.

This was created by the governing body to compensate clubs for releasing their players to play for their countries in FIFA competitions.

For the World Cup, a £270 million pot was created to be distributed among domestic sides, subject to their players taking part in the biggest competition in football in North America.

Now, The Sun have revealed how much Arsenal have earned so far.

The report claims that the compensation works out at $5,000 (£3,800) per day for each player that a club has at the World Cup.

Arsenal have a total of 15 players representing their countries there right now, which means they are owed a whopping $75,000 (£57,000) every single day.

That means FIFA have already paid Arsenal over $1 million (£758,185), and that number could go up even more in the coming weeks.

We’re sure Stan Kroenke will be pleased with that.

Arsenal will also receive compensation if one of their players suffers a significant injury

It’s not just for participation that FIFA compensates clubs, they do so for injuries as well.

Back in November last year, finance expert Adam Williams exclusively told Arsenal Insider that clubs are owed as much as £20,000 per day should one of their players be ruled out due to injury for more than 28 days.

Williams said: “You can claim compensation when a player is injured on international duty. You do this through the Club Protection Programme, which applies when a player is out of action for more than 28 days because of an injury sustained on international duty.

“I’ve got to credit Philip Buckingham at The Athletic for the figures here, because I wasn’t aware of precisely how this worked. But you can claim up to £6.6m for an injury in a worst-case scenario.

“That, as Buckingham says, works out at just under £20,000 per day and is there to cover a player’s basic wage before variable pay and image rights.”
