Arsenal star William Saliba has come up against some elite attackers over the years.
The Frenchman is one of the best centre-backs on the planet, and he has contained the likes of Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe over the years.
Saliba is a great judge of who’s a good attacker and who isn’t.
The Arsenal number two has now heaped praise on a player who was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates a few years ago.
William Saliba hails former Arsenal target Michael Olise
Michael Olise has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time.
The Gunners have a fantastic scouting network, and they are often aware of the best talents across Europe and beyond.
Arsenal wanted to sign Olise when he was at Reading over four years ago, but he ended up joining Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace instead.
Mikel Arteta’s side were keen to sign Olise a couple of years later as well, but no move materialised then either.
The Frenchman joined Bayern Munich in the end for a fee in the region of £50 million (BBC), and he has been magnificent there.
Now a part of the French national team, Olise seems to have caught many players’ eyes – including Arsenal star William Saliba.
He said about the forward, as per Football London: “He [Olise] is one of the technical leaders, he brings a bit of madness to this team because he’s above average technically.
“He’s a cool guy, he’s funny. He’s a bit nonchalant sometimes, but he’s a very good player and he’s going to bring even more to this team given his quality.”
Arsenal have their own Michael Olise
One of the big stumbling blocks for Arsenal when they were interested in signing Olise was that he wouldn’t have been a guaranteed starter.
Bukayo Saka is Arteta’s first-choice right-winger, and nobody is displacing him at the Emirates.
That is why a move never materialised, but Arsenal have Noni Madueke now, and he could be the Gunners’ own Olise.
The England international produced a few exceptional performances on the right wing for the Gunners and impressed everyone at the start of this season.
Madueke is unfortunately injured now, but once he comes back, we think he can have a huge impact at Arsenal.
