Arsenal are set to kick off their Premier League campaign against Wolves, and will hope to get their title challenge off to the best possible start.

Mikel Arteta has expressed the importance of Arsenal starting the season strongly as they go head-to-head with Manchester City for the Premier League title, and will hope to record a win on the opening day.

Arsenal face a tough start to the campaign, with trips to Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City for their first three away games, and they will need to settle into their rhythm quickly.

They have a mostly-fit squad available, although a number of defenders are missing, with Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney still injured, and Jurrien Timber a doubt.

The core of the Arsenal back line which cemented themselves as the best defence in the Premier League is available though, and William Saliba will be looking to kick on after a fine Euro 2024 campaign with France.

Saliba is now on the verge of Arsenal history, and can set a new club record if he is on the winning side on Saturday.

William Saliba can break Arsenal record with victory over Wolves

Saliba is entering his third season as an Arsenal player after two outstanding campaigns, and he has now registered 49 victories in his 65 Premier League appearances.

If he is on the winning side on Saturday against Wolves, he will reach 50 wins in 66 games, and he will become the fastest player in Arsenal’s history to achieve this in the Premier League era.

Saliba has drawn eight and lost eight of his appearances so far, and he will have a 75.4% win rate if he is in the side and Arsenal pick up three points in their Premier League opener.

Who William Saliba will overtake in Arsenal history books for Premier League victories

Right now, the quickest player to reach 50 Premier League wins for Arsenal was Spanish left-back Nacho Monreal, who reached this total in 70 games.

Invincibles favourite Kolo Toure is just behind, managing it in 72 games, whilst Edu Gaspar follows with 50 wins from his first 73 games, tied with Sol Campbell.

The next non-Invincible on the list is Aaron Ramsdale, who took 76 games to reach 50 wins, with Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Mikel Arteta taking 77 games.

Saliba can set the record even if Arsenal do not beat Wolves. The Frenchman will overtake Monreal if he wins in any of his next four Premier League appearances, and given his world-class ability and potential, this may be one of many records he ends up breaking in his career.
